Ahoy, matey! The Everson Lounge at Brookens Library was recently invaded by patrons of a different sort. Sara Winters, the summer teacher at the Cox Children’s Center, asked if she could bring her students to the library for an activity.
Library staff members responded by planning a storytime and craft session. The lounge was an ideal place to hold the event, which included ten children listening to the reader, Patricia Erford, read the book “How I Became a Pirate” by Melinda Long. Photographer and graphic artist Megan Hunter took many photos of the event. Librarian Nancy Weichert told several pirate jokes and helped with the activities.
Children glued and taped together pirate hats, shouted pirate-speech as the story progressed, shared pirate jokes, and made pirate maps of treasure that was marked with a large X! Aaaaaargh!
