Art on Display @ Brookens!

Bill & Rachel in front of the art wall

Works of art by Bill Abler & Rachel Hasenyager adorn the new Friends of Brookens Library Art Wall now through mid-May.

Bill Abler is an Associate Professor in the Human Development Counseling program. This is the first time that he is showcasing his artwork. His exhibit ranges in media from oil paintings to a charcoal drawing; from three well executed oil paintings, all portraits, including a self-portrait, to two pastel landscape drawings. One still life is also in pastel and one charcoal drawing shows the range of his artistic endeavors.

Rachel Hasenyager is the Office Manager for Alumni Relations here at UIS. Her exhibit consists entirely of delightful watercolor paintings.  Scenes from Springfield like “Farmers Market” and “Incredibly Delicious” to a vase of lilacs are all rendered beautifully. Rachel is a new member of our Friends and will showcase more of her watercolor paintings in our next art wall exhibit.

The Friends of Brookens Library Art Wall is open to UIS students, alumni, faculty and staff, and local community members–however, Friends members will be given preference for choosing a time-slot for hanging their artworks. This is one of our newest exclusive benefits for our Friends members.

Members also receive invitations to book signings, poetry readings and lectures and any other events co-sponsored by the Friends. Members also enjoy exclusive invitations to the annual Friends-only event and membership in an organization that enhances the vibrant intelluctual life of a great university.

Students can become Friends of Brookens Library for as little as $25 for a one year membership. Regular Friends membership starts in the “Vachel Lindsay Circle,” $50 for a one year membership.
