Brookens is starting a new series – “Know A Brookens Librarian” where we feature one of our talented librarians so you can get to know them better – they are people too you know! Out staff is not comprised of your stereotypical finger shhhing, bun and glasses wearing ladies in plaid skirts and button up blouses (not that there’s anything wrong with that). However, the Brookens team is made up of a diverse group of individuals passionate about helping people to learn, to discover knowledge, to research more effectively, and much more. They are vibrant, fun, & interesting – we think you’d like them if you got to know them a little bit better!
Let’s begin with our newest librarian on staff: Bethany Tschaepe.
Bethany is our latest and greatest librarian. She joined the team in October, 2011. A recent graduate of the Master of Library and Information Science Program at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Bethany brings energy & enthusiasm to the position.
While working towards her Master’s, Bethany discovered her passion for instruction through teaching yoga and group fitness classes at UIUC. She is working towards her 200RYT certification through Yogafit and is an official willPower and grace Phase 1 instructor (a barefoot, cardio fusion workout). Rumor has it you will start seeing her teaching at TRAC Spring 2012!!!
When she is not working the reference desk or at the gym, she enjoys cooking for friends, gardening, reading, starting mini-dance parties in her car, in her office, at the grocery store, catching a local hockey game and watching Dr. Who and Star Trek. Within the world of library and information science, she is interested in exploring various kinds of instruction technologies and keeping up to date on issues of open access and information literacy.
This coming up year she will participate in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb at the Hilton in Springfield, go to NYC for the first time, and eagerly anticipate the release date for The Hunger Games.
