Brookens Library and The Learning Hub are offering a series of workshops to help you get a better start on your research before diving in to databases or writing your paper. Designed for first or second year students, this workshop series will introduce you to the concepts needed for college level research and writing.
Session 1: Understanding Your Assignment
Tuesday Sept. 22 @ 2pm and 6pm in UHB 2006
Get your research and writing started right by learning how to dissect an assignment from Brookens Librarians and Learning Hub staff. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to understand an assignment, select a topic, identify your research needs, and get started with your writing.
Session 2: Background Research/Developing a Thesis

Move from topic to thesis and harness the power of Google with The Learning Hub and Brookens Library. Save time and frustration with our tips and tricks for developing a thesis and conducting background research that will set you on the right track when starting your next research/writing assignment.
Session 3: Critical Reading and Note Taking
Tuesday Oct. 6 @ 2pm and 6pm in UHB 2006
Before your start writing your next research paper, make sure that you have all of the information that you need. In this workshop, Brookens Library and The Learning Hub will introduce you the types of articles you will find in library databases and will provide you with note taking skills to tackle your research and use it in your assignment.
Session 4: Evaluating Sources and MLA Citations
Tuesday Oct. 13 @ 2pm and 6pm in UHB 2006
Before turning in your next research paper, make sure that your sources are both appropriate and cited correctly. Learn how to evaluate your sources with Brookens Library and then cite them right with The Learning Hub.
