Major: Political Science and Public Policy
What is your favorite thing about being a student at UIS? The thing that I enjoy the most about being a student at UIS is the independence that I have. While I was in community college I lived at home so it just felt like an extension of high school, but now I enjoy the freedom away from my hometown. I especially enjoy living in a townhouse with three housemates, as I get along with them very well.
What are your goals for the semester? My primary goal for this semester is to maintain my 4.0 GPA. Another goal that I have is to try and find a good place to intern with or work at over the course of the summer, so that I don’t stagnate. I will also seek to make even more new friends on campus.
If there were a reality TV show of your life, what would it be called? Why? If there were a reality TV show of my life, it would most likely be called “Mr. Akers goes to Washington”. This is because much like the famous movie “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” I am from a small town and I hope to eventually serve my fellow citizens in Congress. I imagine this TV show would have a very long plot line spanning many years.
Are you involved in any clubs/activities/sports on campus? Or what are your hobbies? The only club that I am involved with on campus is the Campus Republicans group. Besides that, my hobbies consist of reading books (both fiction and nonfiction), listening to a variety of music, and keeping up with the latest political news. These activities mesh very well with my schoolwork, as I am almost solely in political science classes.
What have you learned since working at the library? Since working at the library I have managed to hone the service skills that I already possessed. Specifically though, I have learned about the cataloging system that we, and many other libraries employ. I have also learned about the intricacies of the I-Share system.
What are your post-graduation plans? After I graduate next spring I intend to embark on one of two different paths. On the one hand, I will seek my Masters degree in Political Science either here or at another institution. My other option/plan is to go to law school, either immediately after graduating or after attending graduate school should I choose that path instead.
