Meet the Team: Joshua

Name: Joshua

Major: Computer Science

Status: Senior

What is your favorite thing about being a student at UIS?  My favorite thing about UIS is having my own apartment on campus with a nice big room, at least when compared to my old room. No longer do I have to commit hours of my life cleaning up after all my brothers and sisters, nor do I get dragged around on errands for my parents. Finally, I love the fact that the on-campus food is actually pretty good. I remember back in high school I was nervous about college but I was hyped for actually being able to have a good meal.

What are your goals for the semester? Well getting good grades is always goal number one. My second goal would be more active in a club. My final goal is to get some scholarships, college is expensive and anything extra will really help.

If there were a reality TV show of your life, what would it be called? Why?  The Avid Gamers Quest for Bacon and Asian food. Well, I do consider myself a gamer and love to search for all sorts of new and exciting games. I also love to try all sorts of new foods but I most commonly seek out Asian cuisine. As for bacon, well I don’t think that needs an explanation.

Are you involved in any clubs/activities/sports on campus? Or what are your hobbies? As mentioned before I’m an avid gamer. I mostly play video games, but I do get the occasional board or card game in every now and then. I’m a member of the computer science club and I have also joined the robotics club.

What have you learned since working at the library? The library has taught me a few things, the first of which is that they actually lend out things besides books. A few examples are blenders, chargers, DVDs, board games, etc. I also learned that they have an area of the library dedicated to super old books, posters, tape recordings, etc. Finally and maybe the most important thing I’ve learned is that the library will shock you. Seriously watch out and don’t touch anything metal!

What are your post-graduation plans?  On graduation, I hope to do one of two things; either continue my education and get a masters degree, this is only an option if I get some serious scholarships, or to land a decent paying job in my field and quickly pay off any debt I might have. The school has good connections with companies such as State Farm and I would be more than happy to be hired by them. Also a dog, honestly that’s probably number one, I need me a dog.
