Welcome to the 2019 Spring Semester at the University of Illinois Springfield. At the Library, we offer both resources and services to help you make the most of your time at UIS. On our website you will find access to our wide variety of databases. Not sure how to get started? Here you will find research help by subject or you can book a Research Consultation with one of our friendly Librarians.
Did you know we have a free app where you can download eBooks and eAudiobooks? It’s true! Simply download the cloudLibrary app and enjoy easy access to thousands of free eBooks/eAudiobooks!
We also have a growing Collection of “Things” called the Library of Things! We have home and kitchen items, board games, and lots of technology for you to check out for FREE! Interested in learning to use a DSLR camera? No problem, we have that. Have a sewing project but no machine? We’ve got you covered! Need a graphing calculator for class? We have several available for FREE checkout! See what all we have available here!
Last semester we refreshed the Main Level by renovating the space and adding comfortable furniture, collaborative workstations, and computer desks to give you plenty of options to suit your needs. We designed this floor to be flexible, so you’ll notice almost all the furniture is on wheels so you can move it when and where you need it.
To help celebrate the arrival of students to campus we will be hosting a makers event in the Student Union.
Do you have a bookshelf and a stack of books? Do you need a bookend to help keep that stack tidy? Well you are in luck! Librarians Sarah Sagmoen and Nancy Weichert will be crafting DIY bookends with students in The Student Union on Thursday, August 30, 2017 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Stop by anytime, we’ll have all the supplies so just bring yourself and friends.
Not sure what to watch next? Our new Binge Kits are a great solution to that problem! Each binge kit is a curated trio of movies centered around a theme. And bonus – every time you check out a binge kit, you get a free bag of microwavable popcorn and candy to munch on while enjoying your movie-fest. Some of this month’s binge kits include:
All about Austen

New binge kits will come out each month. Happy bingeing!!

Welcome to Brookens Library and UIS for the 2017-18 academic year! I am Pattie Piotrowski, University Librarian and Dean of Library Instructional Services, and whether you are a returning, familiar face, or are new to campus, I want to extend a warm welcome and open invitation to students, faculty, and staff to visit Brookens Library. Brookens Library provides comfortable spaces for group or individual study, services ranging from research consultations to interlibrary loan, and collections that are located within the library, and online for easy access from off-campus.
I encourage you to explore our web page and find just what we have for you, or contact us by stopping by or by online, and we can work with you to write a great research paper, help track down that hard-to-find piece of research, or provide access to research you need. You’ll find new resources, new collections and research assistance featured on Research Guides.
In the library, we’ve added a few new items: faster computers and colorful task chairs on all levels, collaborative work stations with monitors for easy group work, and new lockers where you can securely charge your laptop, tablet, or phone. You’ll also want to keep an eye on the events and activities we hold, including fall campus traditions such as The Friends Book Sale in September and the Haunted Library in October. There’s also newer traditions to watch for, such as a Cereal Bar during Finals Week
I hope to see you at Brookens Library or on campus, but feel free to reach out any time and let me know how we’re doing or what else Brookens Library can do to assist in your success. Best to you all.
Hello, and welcome to the 2016 Fall semester at UIS! I am Pattie Piotrowski and as new University Librarian and Dean of Library Instructional Services I want to warmly welcome students, staff and faculty to visit Brookens Library. Brookens Library has something for everyone, from research tools and materials to collections of popular DVDs and ebooks (we even have Kindle Fires you can borrow as well!) In addition to our own collections, we provide interlibrary loan services, so we can get you what you need. Beyond collections and tools, we have a great staff of librarians who can meet with you and make sure you’re on the right research track, or even help you with that final piece of the research puzzle. Schedule a consultation for you or your study group and let us help you reach academic success.
You’ll also want to keep an eye on the events and activities we hold, including what has come to be a campus tradition – the Haunted Library – held this year on October 21. Brookens Library will be at the Campus Involvement Fair on August 24th from 4:00-6:00 pm. Stop by our table and ask us anything, absolutely anything, you want to know about Brookens and start down the path to being an academic star with Brookens Library.
All the best to new and returning students and remember: it’s not good luck that gets you good grades, it’s good library assistance! If you see me on campus, let me know how Brookens Library can best help you.
Brookens is hosting an open house Friday 8/26 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. There will be free light refreshments and lots of goodies and giveaways. Several departments throughout the building will be participating so come and learn a little about each! See you there.
Welcome to all our new and returning students from the faculty and staff of Brookens Library! The start of a new semester is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. There are so many details to keep track of, and so much to learn. Even returning students can find that many things have changed, from class schedules to roommates.
The UIS Welcome Week theme this year is “You Belong @ UIS.” As you get used to your new classes and begin to discover what groups you enjoy, and where you fit in on campus, we hope you will realize that “You Belong @ the UIS Library”, too.
There is a place for you here: from Mary Jane’s Cafe on the lower level, providing your coffee and snack needs, to the staff of the Reference and Information Desk on level 2, catering to your research needs. From magazine, newspaper, and book Browsing Areas to comfortable study lounges with access to CD’s and Audiobooks, the library has what you need. We even have free Wi-Fi. Check us out online at http://library.uis.edu, or better yet, visit us in person. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
